About Spreed
The idea behind Spreed started at some point in the early 1990s. Patrick Keefe, a novice speed reader, introduced the general principals of speed reading to Anthony Novac. At a practice session in Patrick’s loft apartment in Halifax, Nova Scotia it occurred to both that it should be possible to leverage the power of the computer to assist in pushing information to the reader faster. Effectively getting the computer to do the heavy lifting.
Technology, however, was not yet ready for this sort of advancement and these two life-long friends went on to other careers. Patrick went to Boston Consulting Group and then Atlas Venture Group. Anthony developed land based casinos and then became a pioneer in online gaming.
In 2006, they partnered with Suhail Mirza, a technology wizard in Anthony's former company, and developed the prototype for Spreed. Shocked at the speed at which they could read, they formed Spreed Inc in 2007 and launched Spreed News later that year.
